There have been two "sea changes" in British life during my 77 years. The first followed the Suez Crisis, when Britons were forced to recognise that the country was no longer a major global power. The second was Brexit when the country voluntarily surrendered what remained of Britain's global influence which was effected only in concert with our EU partners. How foolish we've been.
