There is a little bit of a "scary" / nerve wrecking truth about "entering" the US. I have been in the US for many different "reasons". As a tourist, exchange student (college and university), getting "job experience" as an intern, "replacement for the holiday season" / like a "summer job", only living but not working (as my family member, living and working permanently in the US. And we had a saying back in the days which was totally true but now sounds completely crazy: "It's easier to enter the US if you just crash your rubber boat on the coast of Miami than as a highly educated European with a permanent job waiting" 😢😂. I have so far visited or "worked" in about 110 countries but the US has been the most difficult to get in. I remember the first time I was going to work in the US and I had applied for all the necessary papers (work visas, permanent living and what not..) and send all the documents from my employer explaining everything almost like a year beforehand and thought this should be easy...nope. Like couple of weeks before my flight was due I got a call from the US embassy that my papers are ready for me to pick up. Well, no. At the same day I was supposed to fly I got a call again. Take a taxi from the Helsinki main railway station to the embassy and continue directly to the airport. Well, I made it but I will never forget that sweatty, out of breath gut wrenching feeling. I will not tell you anything what happened at the US immigration desk and other places...full monty as they say in the UK. Maybe some day😢😂😂.

I think you find the best "old" german humor under "die drei cousinen loriot".
