Russians cast ballots. Some votes are even counted correctly. But that doesn’t make the elections fair. Russia’s only legally registered anti-war party, Yabloko, has been removed from the nationwide ballot ahead of the country’s parliamentary election. The official allegations include foreign support, extremism, campaign violations—and even copyright violations involving song lyrics. In this video, I explain how Russia’s State Duma elections actually work, why Vladimir Putin doesn’t need to fabricate every ballot and how the Kremlin engineers the outcome long before voting begins.
