Muslims have been in Australia since 1860s. Australia’s first mosque was built in 1861 at Marree (then called Hergott Springs) in South Australia by Afghan and South Asian cameleers. Oldest Surviving Mosque: The Broken Hill Mosque Museum (built in 1887) and the Central Adelaide Mosque (built in 1888–1889) are among the oldest standing mosques from the cameleer era. The Muslim cameleers are widely celebrated as the "backbone of the outback" because they laid the crucial transportation foundation that opened up Australia's arid interior. Without their skills, endurance, and deep knowledge of desert survival, the colonization, mapping, and economic development of the Australian outback would have been virtually impossible during the 19th and early 20th centuries.번역 보기
