I took part in the facilitation and processing of Afghan refugees in Ft. Pickett VA right after the collapse of the Afghan government when I was a Marine. We housed tens of thousands of former ANA, Afghan commandos, their families, and others who were our allies. I was in charge of some housing blocs and distribution of hygiene supplies. I sat outside drinking tea everyday with former ANA troops and conversed with them. How many tears were shed on the loss of their homeland! How they told me of their struggles and sacrifices over the years. How many dead friends. I don’t judge them for fleeing. Imagine you got a call while guarding a base that your entire command and political leadership fled the country and left you to be captured or die. But I sat with these men everyday and saw the tears flow through their eyes on the loss of their homeland after so much sacrifice. Last year a Dutch junior minister was announced, but quickly a media storm exploded as it was 'revealed' that she hadn't actually graduated from university, as she had stated in an interview. On her cv it said she attended a course, but it wasn't explicit that she graduated. She came from a difficult background, climbed up from vocational school, through to a university of applied sciences and managed to get into university. Her old employer had appararently not checked her cv enough and hired her, but she had been extremely succesful in that job. She clearly had the qualifications, but she had to be destroyed. For days on end, every talkshow, news programme, newspaper talked only about how terrible it was that she had LIED and how she was a fraud. Different of course, because she wasn't an academic, but a politician (do you really need a diploma to be in politics?). But it just goes to show the eagerness of our media to expose and take down, leaving zero room for apologies or growth from the target involved. They will keep hacking into someone until they stand down or, in this tragic case, take their own life.번역 보기
