About four weeks ago, I learned about flystrike the hard way! I got home at dark and my 26 year old outdoor kitty (I've had her 21 years, she was estimated to be about 5 years old when she showed up) she walks up to me with her back end COVERED in flies! Idk what kind of flies, they looked like typical black flies with a green sheen. I got her under lights in the laundry room with the flies buzzing everywhere. I was expecting to find some kind of wound under the flies, but there was none. Her backside was a little dirty because she doesn't clean herself as well these days. She has fluffy fur that i had shaved about 8 months ago, and she had a few mats around her back end. To my horror, as i examined her, i see all these little white rice-looking clusters everywhere. I figured this had to be fly eggs, so i started combing them out with a flea comb. The flies laid a lot of the eggs under the matted fur. I spent the next 4 hours cutting her fur off with scissors because my shaver is broke, and combing out the eggs. Then i soaked her in a bubble bath of lime sulphur shampoo for cats, her first bath, just to be sure i got them all. The eggs hatch into maggots in about 8 hours, then they start eating into the live animal. I'm glad i finished with the bath, because there were still a cluster of eggs in her tail that i found later the next day that still weren't hatched, i think the sulphur lime deactivated them. She has fully recovered and is back to her old self with a bad haircut.번역 보기
