I've read Gabriel Zuchmans book and he points out that taxing the wealthiest few hundred families will not solve societies problems, but it will help. He suggests that we should tax wealth of $100million or more at minimum of 2% unless it has already been paid in income tax. If a billionaire average return on their wealth is 6% per annum (very unlikely to be that low) then 2% represents a third of their income. Roughly in line with most tax payers. $100 million is the threshold where taxpayers typically stop paying more income tax and that's because their money goes into tax avoidance schemes. For this to work effectively, billionaires must continue to be taxed when they move abroad. The US does this already as a lifetime liability. Europe allows the wealthiest to pay nothing when they leave. A compromise system of taxing billionaires for a period of years after leaving will remove the incentive to find a tax haven. Gary Stevenson argues the same point but suggests starting at a lower threshold. Nothing radical. How anyone can get upset about us all paying a fair share into the pot is beyond me.번역 보기
