My prognostication [as informed by HCR, Meacham's recent biography of Lincoln, and my recollection of Barack Obama opening up the 2004 Democratic Convention] is that those Democrats openly positioning themselves for a presidential run in 2028 won't be the final candidate. As was noted with Lincoln and reported with Obama, the candidate will be the one actively recruited and needing to be talked into running. Ossof? Warnack? Kelly? Pritzker? Beshear? Whitmer? Hochul? Grisham? They are not the only ones capable, but some degree of celebrity appears to be a current requirement.
