We often think skepticism means refusing to believe extraordinary claims. But Carl Sagan's deeper argument is that skepticism and wonder belong together. The goal isn't to dismiss what seems impossible. It's to discover what the evidence actually supports. The structural problem is that compelling stories often spread more easily than careful explanations. Education, media incentives, and our own psychological tendencies can reinforce that imbalance. A society can become extraordinarily sophisticated technologically while leaving many citizens poorly equipped to evaluate the claims shaping their lives. If schools have limited time to teach science, which should receive greater emphasis: learning established scientific knowledge or practicing how to test competing explanations—and what would be lost by prioritizing one over the other?번역 보기
