Rory in the 13th minute indicates the real issue we are facing here when he says that sending students down the vocational route is giving up on them. Until we shift that archaic mindset and value technical competence alongside academic competence we will never get this right. My brother hated Maths and Physics at school. He is now a master mechanic running his own garage applying maths and physics to his work and diagnostics, applying accounting and mathematics skills in running the finances of his business and applying literacy skills in completing marketing materials, letters to clients and contractors etc. we need to contextualise the core skills we need our children to learn and start viewing techinical ability in the same way we do academic ability.번역 보기

I’m a Brit who left school at 16 and now live in Sydney. The myopic view that university is everything cannot be more disproved than here on Sydney’s northern beaches where in this affluent area a lot of the big houses are owned by cashed up tradies with a brand new $150,000 American luxury Ute parked in the drive. Meanwhile graduates are struggling to get work. The trades are a lot better future proofed than a lot of graduate level jobs.번역 보기
