I would just like to add that it wasn’t just the DA case that got the show cancelled. That was the breaking point, but up to that point as the show was becoming more sensational, they were starting to ignore police protocols. The cops on the scene were supposed to be doing their own private investigation that worked parallel to NBC/Perverted Justice, but by the end of the show, NBC was calling all the shots and the police were just following their orders. This is what lead to the swat team going to the DA’s house when that wasn’t necessary, and they already had enough evidence to go after him in court, but it wouldn’t have been as much of a spectacle as breaking in with the swat team. As well, many of the catches in Texas ended up being done out of jurisdiction since the crimes themselves (the messages) were committed outside of the arresting police departments jurisdiction, without cooperation from the police where the crimes actually occurred. This among other things is what lead to 50% of the preds being let go, and almost all of the preds in the final episodes being let go free. Luckily they have learned a lot since then, which is why Takedown with Chris Hansen is so successful.
