How it is made: About 90% of the movie is shot like all of our home movies, including background plates for scenes with the robots. There are 18 different models in the movie, 3 are simplified versions from the movies, 1 is a 3D scan of a toy, 1 is 100% practical, and the other 13 are 100% original. The models are then rendered out into multiple images to create a 3D character inside of Seedance, which then generates the movement of the robots into the plates that were filmed for the scene. Any other vfx shot that doesnt include a robot was not done with video generation. We also have a non Ai program that is custom made that fixes the odd visual abnormalities that comes with generating with Seedance. All generated footage is then edited like any other shot, with color grading and extra compositing tricks to make it look and feel as photo realistic and cinematic as possible. Voice lines are recordings of actors in character that are then tweaked to sound robotic using either modulators or simple pitch, stutter, flange, and duplication techniques. 0% of the voices are Ai recreations of any of the iconic voicework in the franchise. The film also has a 100% original orchestral score that never used Ai in any of its tracks. Although Seedance was used, it is not just an Ai project. Not to mention the fact that making a full length 4K movie in Ai would cost an astronomical amount that everyday people would never be able to afford.
