Re: Ann Widdecombe and mental health We lived near Maidstone when she was the MP; albeit not our MP; and I wouldn’t have voted for her if she she was, on account of her views on some things. My sweetheart was a volunteer for the Maidstone branch of Mind; and concentrated on providing arts and crafts activities for the Mind users. At some point, a tea party was organised, for which, my sweetheart suggested they make it a Mad Hatters’ party, with everyone making silly hats to wear. In my sweetheart’s case, she made a bushman’s hat out of Papier-mâché, with tea bags instead of corks dangling from the brim. Ann Widdecombe was asked if she would like to attend and judge the hat competition. She gave up the afternoon, chatted to everyone about their lives; spoke to the branch managers to see if there were any issues she could assist with. She picked my sweetheart’s hat as the competition winner, since it was the most ridiculous one; and insisted on wearing it, all the time she was there. Ann could have just shown her face and left; but from what I was told, she showed a genuine interest in the people taking respite at Mind, was a great laugh, not afraid of looking silly to make the party a success; and treated everyone kindly as an equal, despite knowing it unlikely there were any votes to be won.번역 보기

Ann was on a different planet to me politically but her murder makes me very angry. Whoever did it fails to realise that those of us who disagreed with her didn’t ever want her to come to harm because of it. The opposite in fact. We're all worse off now.번역 보기
