There's something incredibly comforting about watching food being prepared this way. No talking, no rushing, no distractions — just the crackling fire, the sounds of cooking, and the simple pleasure of making a meal from scratch. I especially love how you let the atmosphere tell the story. And that fresh bread with a bowl of hot, cheesy cabbage soup looks like the perfect meal on a cold evening. Beautifully filmed! 👏번역 보기

My inspiration came from The Cook's Own Book (ca. 1832). I eyeballed that book from top to bottom but alas nowhere could I find the entire, "cheesy cabbage soup" recipe that it teased. But I knew that I had to make it! Below you will find my recipe. It is very, very good especially on a cool day! This is seasonal eating at its best. Cheesy Cabbage Soup (for the soul): 1 medium onion chopped 2 spring onions, chopped ½ head cabbage, chopped 2 large potatoes, chopped 1/2 cup of bacon, chopped 5 cups of chicken stock OR vegetable broth 1 tsp of thyme 1 tsp of dill Salt and pepper to taste 1 cup of grated parmesan cheese ¾ cup cream In a stockpot add the bacon and cook until it is nearly done on medium heat. Stir frequently. Add the chopped vegetables. Stir frequently until the onions are soft, or about 10-15 minutes. Pour in the stock, herbs, salt & pepper. Simmer uncovered for 20 minutes. Add the cheese and cream. Cook on simmer until the cheese has melted and take off your heat (3-5 minutes). Do not boil. Serve hot with bread. The Cook's Own Book (1832) is free to read online! https://archive.org/details/cooksownbookbein00leeniala/cooksownbookbein00leeniala/번역 보기
