Lifelong O's fan here who lived in MD at the time. We were always raised in Bawlmer to think that Jim Palmer was a prima donna jerk. Then I met him in the most unlikely of places Harry Karay's Restaurant and Bar in Chicago. My buddy and I were sitting there drinking beer and two guys walked up behind us. They were John Miller and Jim Palmer. The Birds were in town playing the Chisox and they had just gotten off work. Jim walked up behind us and asked us if we were O's fans. He the proceeded to pick up our tab and keep it open. He graciously signed everthing we had. He was the ultimate gentleman and was so soft spoken and gracious. My buddy asked him why Earl always rode his ass so much? Jim replied "he just wanted to make me better" Bless you Jim I miss you on the broadcasts with Ben but drop in every once in a while.
