1895 was when Westinghouse/Tesla opened the Niagara power plant. This was the start of AC transmission. (DC would not go long distance.) Then the big wires were copper, but now they are aluminum with a steel core. Higher efficiency is obtained with larger wires, but that means expensive strong towers. This was proposed when Rice University and Teijin Aramid showed a carbon nanotube thread conducting power over a decade ago. Their total production was booked in advance by the US govt.번역 보기
