Luke always thinks he is more clever than he actually is If Islam is dominating and Garry can't get out, but is still somewhat fighting his way out of those positions and making it harder for Islam to keep Garry in these positions then it's Islam's goal to keep making him struggle as much as possible. From a pure martial arts perspective, If you're a fighter in a bad position, it's your responsibility to get out of it, it's not the other guy's responsibility to keep advancing. That's basic common sense. However, if you want to maximize excitement, then maybe you should put a more objective scoring system instead of relying on judges' perception, but you run the risk of turning MMA into more a sporty sport and away from a real life or death situation in which the more skilled person wins. To me, a fighter can do whatever it is he can to win as long as it's legal. If you wanna call it hacky or say that he's gaming the current system, I don't care. A fighter who doesn't use what's in his toolbox to game the system and win is as dumb as a fighter that gets fouled because of a stupid rule. You don't like it?
