I have first hand experience with this. I have a daughter who has a learning disability, and the heavily resourced middle school in our well off community simply wasn't a good fit. We tried making it work, but she wasn't learning and her mental health was affected. She moved to a smaller charter school which offered a hands on learning experience, and she thrived. Yes, there were losses - she didn't see her original friends every day, but she doesn't regret her decision.번역 보기

I always felt that it was a bonus for me that I went to a smaller public high school. My graduating class was about 170 students. Other nearby schools were of a similar size. Thus, in our geographic area about 4 to 5 times more kids got to play on the sports teams or act in the musicals than did kids who went to mega schools with thousands of students. We knew everyone in the school, at least by sight. We knew all of the teachers names. I fully believe it led to a better educational experience.번역 보기

I went to public schools in the '60s and '70s, each one a five- to 15-minute walk from home. I got a decent education, though not outstanding. We lived in a middle-class suburb and didn't worry about making a living, since we rarely saw "poor" people. My best friend now lives in her childhood home on the street where we grew up, and has a young daughter who attends the same schools we did. When they tell me about what she learns, I am amazed at how much better her education is than ours. More wide-ranging subjects, more hands-on practical skills, more in-depth investigation into specific topics. I am so happy that most kids in my city still attend public schools. Parents have more choices now, with French Immersion and technical schools, but still in the public system. I hope we avoid the disaster of US "education." From Canada 🇨🇦번역 보기
