I actually looked into this case and read the more detailed coverage from SBS Italian. This family originally came to Australia through the mother’s TEMPORARY STUDENT VISA pathway they were never permanent residents. Their attempt to obtain permanent residency through their intended visa pathway was unsuccessful. Their son Stefano, however, pursued his own separate pathway through employer sponsorship and eventually obtained PR. That is important context because this short news clip can easily give people the impression that Australia is suddenly taking PR away from a family after 11 years. That is NOT what happened they never had PR in the first place. I can sympathise with the family, but the full immigration history matters. The SBS coverage gives a very different and much fuller picture than this short headline.번역 보기

What visa did they arrive on ? And why have they not got PR after 11 years. Somethings been missed from this story hasn't it ? And rules are rules.번역 보기

This is a classic example of how the media tries to manipulate its viewers by only showing what they want us to see, without giving the details! It seems like they initially came to Australia on a temporary work visa (ex. 482) and then tried to apply for PR (ex. through 186) but failed the medical test due to her medical condition. The medical requirements are there to check whether the people who apply for PR are in good health hence would not burden the health care system (funded by the taxpayers). It is unfortunate that she got diagnosed with this condition but still the department of home affairs needs to adhere to the visa requirements. A visa is like a contract between an individual and the government, so there are terms that the individual and the government needs to meet. The main problem I see here is the ART (Administrative Review Tribunal) taking 6 years to process their case :( This is due to the 1000s of false appeals that clog up the ART, the current and all the previous governments are responsible for this mess!번역 보기
