From a behavioural specialist’s perspective, I completely support this important message. The effects of brachycephaly can go far beyond breathing and physical health. Dogs rely heavily on their sense of smell (olfactory system) to gather and process information, communicate and understand the world around them. Through my behavioural work, I see how changes to this can affect the way some brachycephalic dogs process and retain information and learn, meaning I often need to adapt the way I train them. I’m Jackie, owner of Happy Dogs Training, and I see many of these behavioural and learning difficulties in the dogs I work with. There is so much to understand about the effect brachycephaly can have on the whole dog. It’s really positive to see greater awareness being raised around their health and wellbeing.번역 보기

We see so many pugs, frenchies and dachshunds at our RSPCA charity clinic in Cambridge and it's not just distressing for the dogs but a huge problem for owners on low income who never realised how expensive it would be even at our subsidised rates. It's become a human welfare problem as well as an animal welfare one.번역 보기

I fully support this campaign. My last Frenchie passed away with IVDD leading to myelomalacia, which is a genetic risk for several dog breeds. It was one of the most painful and heartbreaking experiences of my life (and I've lost both parents to cancer, so I do have perspective). I loved my dog and he was such a big character and so full of life. To watch him lose function of his legs and his toilet functions was very painful, very costly to me, and most importantly an awful and frightening illness for him to endure.번역 보기
