My son made a under 12 travel team as a 10 year old just because he was a little bigger and a little faster and looked smooth in the infield and had a good swing. He ended up being their starting SS and the 12 and over travel team coaches started chatting me up and salivating to have him on their teams. I told them he also really liked football and golf and swimming (he was on a well known youth swim team at our Country Club), and that he might not be available for a travel team going forward. The venom I got about "he'll never even make the H.S. team if you don't have him on a 12 and up travel team" really pissed me off and I basically scratched those coaches off my list for when he was 12. In H.S. he ended up making all county as a safety on the football team and played CF for the baseball team and swam on the swim team. athletics turned out to not be his path though as he had sky high SAT's and chose to follow in my and his grandfathers footsteps and went to Engineering College and is now a High Voltage Power Distribution Engineer with Duke Energy in North Carolina, living in the mountains and having a life that anyone would be thankful for.번역 보기

I grew up as a kid playing baseball in the '60s and '70s in the Chicago area. We played pickup games at the local parks all summer long. No organized leagues, no parents, no umpires. Nobody had any money, but we had a couple of old bats and a few balls and some gloves, and we just figured it out. Once in a while, there was a fight. And if there weren't enough kids to play, right field was closed. Sometimes we played through lunch, or we'd play until there wasn't enough light to see good anymore. And without doubt, those were the best days of my life.번역 보기
