This episode first aired on October 30, 2008. Just a few months after the broadcast, the restaurant was forced to close permanently in February 2009. Owner John Ittenbach explained at the time that, given the harsh economic conditions of the financial crisis, it was impossible to maintain the high quality standards demanded by Ramsay while food prices were skyrocketing. Furthermore, the business was already burdened by millions of dollars in debt before Ramsay even arrived. On the show, John Ittenbach was portrayed as the incompetent manager in charge, facing heavy criticism for the mismanagement and poor quality of the food. Following the bankruptcy, he made an unsuccessful attempt to find new investors for the business. After the televised debacle, he withdrew completely from the public eye within the restaurant industry but remained in the South Bend, Indiana area in his private life. Rick Sutton and Tricia had invested their entire life savings and retirement funds into the restaurant and were left facing a mountain of debt. Shortly after J. Willy's shut down, they were forced to permanently close their second restaurant, Damon's Grill, that same year.
