Well, the history section is a bit superficial. Open flame streetlights were first replaced by gas mantle lights (which, in some countries, remained in use until late 2000's), then electric arc lights (even before electric incandescence lamps); fluorescent tubes, and then various HID lights. In case of HID lights, mercury vapour lamps preceded low pressure sodium lamps. It is worth mentioning metal halide lamps, as the most advanced HID-lamps in street lighting, because they are superior both in colour rendering and light efficiency than either mercury vapour or sodium lights. One more disadvantage for sodium lamps: their colour spectrum doesn't fit well with human night vision, therefore higher light intensity needed for the same subjective illumination level when we use sodium lamps instead of other high intensity light sources.번역 보기
