regarding the endgame where the AI did 4x the mistakes and lost 7x the points than nigel, that was because quackle used a pruning method to only use the top 20-30 highest scoring lines, whereas nigel used low score bizarre moves, which because they were low scoring, quackle didn't bother checking. this gap between nigel and the best AI was so embarrassing to engineers that they made a new AI specifically for endgames, macondo. this uses an exhaustive, brute force method of analysis and checks every single line. this can take many hours PER move, and multiple DAYS per move if the user of the bot isnt using a supercomputing setup built for it. through macondo, they were able to find that nigel was right all along. in the endgame macondo actually uses the same core system that chess engines use, able to write off certain moves as useless, but it has to be this exhaustive and check so much more because scrabble is an area control game at top level, not a word game. it becomes about limiting your opponent, not just points. a high scoring move now could make you lose the game later on, and vice versa, so the bot cant simply write off paths the game can go down like you can in chess. nigel's intellect and inhuman intuition allows him to make these decisions in minutes. thats why nigel is the greatest of the greatest, likely nobody will ever be as good at anything as he is at scrabble.번역 보기
