If I may add, there is a deep sense of nostalgia attached to the tin Dosirak (도시락) from the 1970s and 1980s. Back then, schools did not provide lunch services. In the harsh winters, we would stack and arrange our tin lunch boxes on or around the charcoal furnace in the classroom to heat them up.With 70 students in a single class, that meant 70 tin boxes! The student sitting closest to the furnace had the important job of rotating them every once in a while. This kept the boxes on the bottom from burning and made sure the ones on the outside actually got hot. As lunch closer approached, the warming lunch boxes would start to fill the classroom with a funky, delicious aroma. Even though the kimchi essentially got cooked inside the tins, we were all just so happy to have a warm meal.When it was time to eat, we would first eat a few bites straight out of the Dosirak to make some room inside. Then, we would close the lid and shake it vigorously to mix everything together. It was also very common to trade or share banchan (side dishes) with classmates to create new flavor combinations for our shaken lunch. It was a wonderful, shared experience.번역 보기
