As always, thanks for sharing this clip. I've been wondering to myself for a few months whether the leadoff position is the best place for PCA. Lots of home runs, but that may be because pitchers are more willing to challenge him with no one on base. With the exception of the first inning, he's batting after the three slowest runners in the lineup. If he's on first and one of them is on second, there's no opportunity to steal second. In a league where the team's HR leader or RBI leader normally bats 3rd or 4th, PCA leads the Cubs in both categories and he's batting leadoff. At the end of the season, his stats will look great, and he may win the MVP. That doesn't necessarily mean he's positioned where the team maximizes its ability to score runs. Maybe I'm just thinking about the 1954 season, when Willie Mays was on pace for 50+ home runs until Leo Durocher told him to focus on base hits for the good of the team. The Giants wound up winning the NL by 5 games before sweeping Cleveland in the World Series. Mays won the batting title that year, and credit has to go to Durocher for putting him in a role where he could do the most damage on offense.번역 보기
